One of a kind find: Coral & Tusk
Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, is where…
You’ll find Stephanie Housley, the woman who brought to life this beautiful embroidered feathers pillow and felt booties (above). When she isn’t creating designs for her Coral & Tusk label, Stephanie works full time as a textile designer of woven fabrics for interiors. You’ll also find her in India several months out of the year, where she designs textile collections for a silk mill. It was during Stephanie’s travels throughout India that she came up with the idea for Coral & Tusk and it’s where she draws much of her inspiration for her delightful creations.
However it’s Prospect Heights in Brooklyn, New York City, that Stephanie calls home. Within walking distance from the house she shares with her husband and co-business owner, Chris, is her favourite coffee haunt, The Glass Shop on Brooklyn’s Classon Avenue. The nearby sprawling Prospect Park is where city dwellers can escape to for a spot of wildlife watching. There’s also the museum library and shopping at the eclectic boutiques in Park Slope (aka ‘the Slope’ to New Yorkers), some of which stock Coral & Tusk like Cog & Pearl on 5th Avenue, Swallow on Smith Street, Acorn on Atlantic Avenue and Sweet William on North 6th Street (whose online store delivers worldwide for $14 USD). SMALLable also stocks Coral & Tusk and they ship worldwide, too.
The latest collection is a nod to the American West (think tepees, feathers and foxes), while recent seasons have seen Stephanie’s love of animals and nature in the designs. It’s the intricate detail that goes into every Coral & Tusk piece that makes Stephanie’s story-like illustrations so unique. If you’re looking for one of a kind, you can’t go wrong here.
